The NEC plans to spend more than $21 million to build a new office building using the formula “palm leaves, palm sugar packaging.” That is, the cost of building the new 9-story building will come from renting the current NEC office building, which is located next to the walls of Naga World in front of the National Assembly. According to Mr. Hang Puthea, a member and spokesperson of the NEC.

At the groundbreaking ceremony for the new NEC office building on the morning of January 2, 2024, Mr. Hang Puthea told reporters that the construction of the new 9-story NEC office building will take 22 months, which is to be completed by October 2025. Once the new building is completed, the NEC will move from the old building to the new building, which is expected to be completed by October 2025.

Mr. Hang Puthea added that the current building is the NEC's own building. The NEC has arranged to rent this building to Naga World Company and it is considered that this money will be used to build the new NEC building here, as we have borrowed the rent money in advance to complete the construction of the NEC.

The construction site for the new NEC office building is located at Lot 71, Sothearos Street, Tonle Bassac Sangkat, Chamkar Mon District, Phnom Penh. This location is the former land where Mr. Kong Kom has lived since the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979, and he handed over the land to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in early 2023.

Please note that the NEC was established in 1998 and has its headquarters in the Ministry of Interior. Later, it moved to the current NEC location in front of the Buddhist Temple and the National Assembly, by allocating a portion of the land to Naga World Company in exchange for the construction of the current NEC building.
